Dr. Sanjay Agarwal

Internal Medicine

Dear Fellow RHWB Runners,

I am Sanjay Agarwal, trained in internal medicine, with interest in obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, and preventive care. I am passionate about population health and putting people in charge of their own health. I grew up in and around Mumbai, completed my MBBS from Mumbai University, internship and residency from Harlem Hospital in NY, fellowship from Mt. Sinai School of Medicine in NY, and MBA from NYU Stern.

I started running on my own in 2011, about a year after our daughter was born. While playing with her, I realized that I needed to stay in shape so that I could keep up with her. This is my first season with RHWB and the first time in a structured running program. I was introduced to RHWB by my dear sister-in-law, Vandana Agrawal and I cannot thank her enough! Like so many of our friends in RHWB, I was active in sports in school and college in table tennis, cricket, and badminton.

I live with my parents, my wife, Shelly, and our daughter, Roma, in Weston, FL. My father is a retired engineer and my mother is a retired teacher. Shelly is a pharmacist with Walgreens and an exercise enthusiast (and probably a future RHWBer). Roma is active in tennis, singing, coding, and enjoying life in general (and possibly a future RHWBer).

I worked in clinical medicine for about 20 years mostly as an adult hospitalist where I tried to provide compassionate care mostly for adult patients at hospitals around the country including NY, NJ, CT, WA, ID, NE, SD, AZ, CA, and MD. I have also worked in skilled nursing homes and outpatient clinics. Currently, I work as a medical director for a health insurance company. Outside healthcare, I love singing, and am an amateur equity investor.

It would be an honor to be of assistance to anyone in this group or their friends and family for acute illnesses or for chronic disease management, especially for parents visiting from India.

One of my favorite guiding principles in life is from Maya Angelou: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel."
