Indu Iyer

"If it doesn’t challenge you, it doesn’t change you."

Indu is a RRCA certified Coach with RHWB and she is very excited to be a part of others' journeys to fall in love with running and help them reach their respective goals.

She lives in Hillsborough NJ with her husband Bala Mahadevan and two beautiful daughters Nitya and Ananya.

She loves to run, hike and travel. Her goal is to travel all over the world doing destination runs along the way. Apart from that, she loves spending time with her family and making new friends.

Indu started her fitness journey in 2011 with the goal of losing some weight after having kids. She just loved working out, especially the boot camp and HIIT workouts were her favorites.

"There were certain days where I used to hit the gym twice a day with my little ones (3 and 5 back then) and had them play in the YMCA play area while I worked out. The instructor was like a drill sergeant who made the workouts so hard that I used to be sore every day. Little did I know that I was getting stronger and fit"  says Indu with a smile.

During her visit to India in 2012, she had to start running on the treadmill as the gym didn't have anything else. She started running  very reluctantly, and couldn’t run, but the motivation to stay fit pushed her to do it. She clearly remembers she couldn’t run on the treadmill at a speed of 3 and texted her marathon acquaintance asking for help.

She kept trying every day and found her hidden passion for running. She was soon hooked on and fell in love with running! Starting out, she focused on speed runs, 5Ks mainly with an aggressive time goal. Finally, after multiple 5K's and other shorter distances, she got into long-distance running by training for her first half marathon in 2018. She did many more half marathons after that one and joined RHWB - S6 for a full marathon and successfully completed her first full Philadelphia Marathon in 2021.

Her family is also into running and her daughters are working towards finishing their first half marathon soon.

She owes her success to the entire RHWB Coaching & the wonderful support from the team. She started her Coaching stint on S6 and wish to continue for as along as possible

" I have made so many wonderful friends along the way and I feel Running together makes friendship stronger and stronger," says Indu.

Being a non-runner for life, Indu's motivation helped me to get going...she encouraged me and said 'I can already see you at the finish line, don't give up! You can do this!'

I spoke to Indu a few times but felt like I knew her for long time! A very good person and an awesome leader.

When I injured my knee, Indu guided me with her knowledge and experience. With her advice, I recovered soon and was back on the running track!
